Past Perfect Continuous Tense




Past Perfect Continuous Tense : We use this tense when the task is continue for long time in past or in other words this tense shows continuity in past with time .



Rules to form this tense :

1. We add "ing" in verb's first form in all the sentences of this tense.
2. We use helping verb "Hadbeen' for singular and plural subjects.
3. We use "Since" for definite time and "For' with indefinite time.

Affirmative/Negative sentence : subject + had + not + been + verb's Ist form + ing + object + since/for + time.



Example : 1. He hadbeen learning english speaking for three months.

2. They had not been coming to school since January.


Interrogative sentence


Yes/No - type : Had + subject + not + been + verb's Ist form + ing + object + since/for + time ?

Example : 1. Had Monu not been taking breakfast for two days at home ?
2. Had you been writing this novel since last night ?

Q.W/ Wh - type : Q.W. + had + subject + not + been + verb's Ist form + ing + object + since/for + time ?

Example : 1. Why had she not been cooking food for you since last monday ?
2. What had you been purchasing from this shop for three days ?

                                   Exercise

1. Sheetal had been washing the clothes for two hours.
2. She had not been cooking food at home since last week.
3. Had Raj not been going to take tuition of Mathmatics for three days ?
4. Why had you been plucking flowers from that garden since April ?
5. What had they been purchasing from this shop for three days ?
